Autobiography Of A Kriya-Yogi by Tarashis Gangopadhyay

Autobiography Of A Kriya-Yogi
     By Tarashis Gangopadhyay

Preface
  By Sri Bipul Kumar Gangopadhyay

By the infinite grace of Sri Sri Tara Ma, the Mother of the Three Worlds—the creatrix, sustainer, and dissolver of the universe—everything in existence stands ordained by the supreme Divine Will. Whatever unfolds in this world is woven by that Eternal Design. It is through the merit of noble thoughts and selfless deeds in lives gone by that one is blessed in this life with the company of saints, holy discourse, and the vision of sacred places.

Through the compassion of Trilokeswari Tara Ma, Tarashis too has been the receiver of that divine fruit. The spiritual treasures gathered through his past austerities, saintly association, and pure intentions have ripened into this life with joy. From childhood itself, as if guided by an unseen hand, he came under the sanctified presence and blessings of many perfected beings—graces that few souls encounter even once in their lifetime.

What is wondrous is that these great saints, at the mere sight of little Tarashis, would take him into their arms, shower him with love, and utter words of prophecy touched with divine insight. Once, the hundred-and-thirty-six-year-old Sri Sri Ramanath Aghori Baba, chief of the Nath Sampradaya and a direct disciple of Sri Sri Bamakhyapa, the living incarnation of Shiva and the presiding saint of Mahapith Tarapith, took Tarashis into his lap and said to me, “Bipul Babu, this little Tarashis will one day shine resplendently in the spiritual world.”

Similarly, the two-hundred-and-twenty-five-year-old Sri Sri Bahera Baba, the renowned Mahayogi of Gyanganj, the Guru of Maharshi Debendranath Tagore, (father of the world-poet Rabindranath Tagore) fondly embraced the two-year-old Tarashis and said, “Yogi Baba, your son Tarashis too shall one day become a yogi.”

During the twenty-five long years of writing my five-volume work, “Mahapith Tarapith,” hundreds of realized saints and accomplished beings visited our Tarabam Sevashram, drawn not by invitation but by divine will. Each of them, in their own illumined way, blessed Tarashis and uttered predictions radiant with spiritual light. Among them were saints from every stream of Indian realization—Shakta, Shaiva, Vaishnava, Brahmavid, and even the mystic Bauls and Auls. Thus, Tarashis grew up in an atmosphere charged with sacred vibration, nourished by the fragrance of the Infinite. Gradually, through his life, the words of those seers began to take living form.

Today, Tarashis is known both in India and abroad as a writer of luminous depth, a yogi, and a spiritual philosopher of international repute. His disciples, devotees, and admirers are countless. At their earnest request, he has now begun to record, in this work—“Autobiography Of A Kriya-yogi”—the sacred memories, prophecies, and blessings of those realized beings.Written in serene, flowing language and with gentle continuity, this book shall become, for countless seekers, a lamp of guidance, solace, and awakening along the path of the spirit.

May, by the infinite grace of Tara Ma, Gopal Sona, and Sri Sri Bhamakhyapa, Tarashis’s life blossom into the Life Divine—becoming a radiant flame to illumine the hearts of countless men and women. With this prayer, I bow in blissful devotion at the lotus feet of the Supreme Mother, Sri Sri Tara Ma, the ever-joyous, ever-compassionate sovereign of the Universe.

—Shri Bipul Kumar Gangopadhyay

A Few Words

Every human life is a single act in the vast cosmic play—a brief descent from the eternal realm into the flowing stream of time,
a momentary sojourn in the world of change,
and then, the return once more to our Divine Source.

Yet behind this fleeting drama lies a divine intent—
a hidden melody in the Creator’s own Lila. For we are all children of the Supreme Self, offspring of immortality. We come into this world carrying within us the essence of that eternal Being. But upon our arrival, Maya veils our true nature, and we forget who we are. Forgetting the Divine, we become lost in the perishable and mistake shadow for substance. We forget that we are neither body nor mind, but the ever-pure, ever-conscious, ever-blissful Self.

Thus, the purpose of human birth is to awaken from this dream of illusion—
to reclaim the forgotten radiance of our own true nature. When we know the Self, we know God; for the Self, the Divine, and the universe are one. Then the individual soul unites with the Supreme—and that journey of union is what I call the path of the Divine Life: the pilgrimage from life entangled in illusion to life awakened in truth.

We descend again and again into this mortal plane to continue that journey— from birth to birth, from life to life, through timeless ages.
In this lifetime too, I have come as an eternal traveler, resuming the path from where it was left before. On this road I have gained and I have lost,
but what I have gained outweighs all loss;
and in that gain, my being has found fulfilment.

From the dawn of this life, by the grace of my Guru, I was guided toward the goal for which I was born.
Along that sacred path, I discovered my own Self—and with it, the sweetness of my beloved Deity’s boundless grace.

For long, my dear readers have wished for a book that would reveal the inner story of my spiritual journey. They have asked what unseen power or divine wonder could so transform an ordinary life with such waves of grace. Moved by their love, I now take up my pen to share the luminous experiences that have marked my passage from the mundane rhythms of life to the luminous realm of the Life Divine.

I know that some truths are beyond words—many visions are too subtle, too sacred to be expressed. Yet there are still those experiences
that have shaped me into a pilgrim of the Infinite, touches of divine grace that lit my way toward immortality. If the fragrance of those experiences can awaken even a single reader to the joy of the Great Life, then I shall know this offering has found its fulfilment.

—Tarashis Gangopadhyay

The Eternal Quest (Part -1)( After the Previously Published Part)

The Eternal Quest
 (Part -1)
( After the Previously Published Part)

Seeker: We have heard that without God’s will nothing can be done, that all is already determined. In other words, “No matter what we try, in the end only God decides.” Then, does human effort carry no value?

Seer: All is indeed predestined. Yet, effort has its place. God first created this great Nature, and then He brought forth each soul in His own image. To every being He gave two paths—one of light, the other of darkness. On the path of light He placed knowledge, devotion, discrimination, detachment, peace, joy, love, and the stillness of samadhi. On the darker way He left the restless mind and the six passions. Now, according to how one tills the field of life, so shall the harvest be. If one walks the path of liberation, the way of light must be chosen; but if one falls to the slavery of the senses, then its bitter fruit must be endured.

That is why, in the Gita, Krishna commanded: “Do your duty without desire for the fruits.” For it is selfless action that delivers us from this world of death. In other words, as we act, so shall we reap.

You may ask, “If everything depends on karma, then how is it predestined?” I tell you, even the kind of action one chooses is predetermined—and known to God alone. He has written it into the very stars. By the arrangement of planets at birth, a true astrologer may glimpse the pattern. Yet know this: though God foreknows, He never interferes. He gives freedom for action, but the fruit of action no one escapes. This is the essence of Jagannath’s truth. He is the Lord of creation, yet He does not place His hand to tilt the scale. Whatever seed the soul sows, that harvest it must gather. Before birth He shows both good and evil, but when the soul enters the play of maya, it forgets. Then, by its own choice, it walks toward light or shadow. Thus the responsibility of both joy and suffering lies on the being—not on God. He remains the silent Witness. He knows all beforehand, but gives us freedom to act, and then He gives back only what we ourselves have sown.

---

Seeker: How, then, should we face the atheist?

Seer: What is an atheist? One who does not affirm God’s existence. And remember, as the saying goes: “By faith the Truth is gained; by argument, it is lost.” Without faith, no amount of debate will suffice. The one who does not believe will not believe by words. Argument never truly convinces—only the one with the louder voice seems to win, while in truth both walk away unchanged. So, why waste energy in fruitless quarrels? Do not try to force belief on them. Mix with them as you would with anyone else, but do not raise the subject of God in their company. In time, when the hour comes, they will realize their own error, and turn toward light.

As the great saint Dilip Kumar Roy once wrote: “Explain a thousand times to the blind newborn mouse, it will not believe in light. Only when its eyes open through experience will it understand what is real.”

---

Seeker: I do not usually argue with unbelievers. Yet in daily life, through work, I must spend time with them. And in that contact my mind becomes filled with a kind of negative energy. How may I protect myself from this negative influence?

Seer: The atheist lives by negation; their work is to deny. The only safeguard is to remain unattached, like water to oil. Be with them, speak with them, but keep your faith apart. Like the lotus rests in mud without being stained, so remain among them. For if you try to persuade, they will resist, and their harsh words will disturb your mind. Why take that poison into yourself?

---

Seeker: Forgiveness is said to be the highest dharma. But if one seeks to harm me, or actually causes me harm—should such a one also be forgiven?

Seer: Yes—because forgiveness is indeed the supreme dharma. It not only conquers the enmity of our foes, it gives us great strength. If we cling to resentment, our mind remains restless and bitter. But in forgiving, we free ourselves. Leave their judgment to God, the highest Judge, whose justice is perfect and without flaw.

The Eternal Quest (Volume 1) By Tarashis Gangopadhyay

The Eternal Quest
  (Volume 1)
 By Tarashis Gangopadhyay

(This sacred satsang took place on Friday, November 11th, 2011, between 10 and 11pm at night. The session centered on the mystic-writer Tarashis Gangopadhyay as Seer, in the presence of many devoted seekers who placed their eternal quest before the author.)

Seeker:
Is this world but a tide of births and deaths, a wandering without end? Or does the hidden Hand of the Lord weave some deeper design?

Seer:
Creation is the play of the Infinite. The One, desiring to taste His own fullness, became many. From that Self-sundering arose worlds upon worlds. The soul was cast into bodies and veiled in Māyā, that through struggle it may awaken, rise, and return to God. Reunion is the secret purpose—separation is but the prelude to union.

Seeker:
How then shall the wanderer find the path home?

Seer:
Human birth is a lamp lit for God-realization. Live truthfully, injure none, let compassion be your breath. Seek silence, prayer, and meditation, until your heart grows ripe. When the soul thirsts deeply enough, the Guru appears—God wearing a human face.

Seeker:
Is the Guru other than God?

Seer:
Between the soul and God rolls the river of Māyā—its waters are desire, its roar is passion. The Guru is the bridge across. In his being, God takes form, guiding the seeker to the farther shore. To yield wholly to him—with body, mind, and word—is the first step of freedom.

Seeker:
Then human life is a rare jewel—meant not merely for survival, but for ascent. To cleanse oneself, to lift others, to remember our root in the Infinite. The Guru, mirror of God, leads us over the ocean of becoming. In this lies the soul’s true victory.

Seer:
Yes. To realize the Self as the Self of all—that is the summit. In that vision is bliss; in that bliss, one overflows into the world. Only there does human life blossom into its eternal meaning.

(www.tarashisgagopadhyay.in)

Kriya yoga - the path of silent lightChapter 1 – Beneath the Silent Mountains by Tarashis Gagopadhyay

Kriya yoga - the path of silent light

Chapter 1 – Beneath the Silent Mountains

The path to the upper terrace wound between ancient sal trees, their leaves whispering in the cool pre-dawn breeze. A pale ribbon of mist clung to the slopes, while far below, the Ganga murmured like an unseen sage reciting a hymn. The peaks of the Himalayas were still wrapped in shadow, but their snow crests caught the faintest touch of rose light, as though the sun itself had paused to bow before them.

Arun moved slowly, feeling the rough stone steps beneath his bare feet. Each step echoed faintly in the stillness, mingling with the river’s low roar and the occasional ringing note of a distant temple bell. He carried with him a quiet urgency. For weeks, questions about Kriya Yoga had stirred within him like restless birds. Now, on this morning, he would lay them before his master.

At the top of the steps stood the meditation hall, its carved wooden doors half-open, allowing a faint thread of sandalwood incense to drift into the cold air. Inside, the room was dim and still. The floor was covered in a faded carpet, worn soft by decades of sitting. At the far end, beneath a narrow eastern window, sat Guruji, his back perfectly straight, his hands resting lightly in his lap. His eyes were closed, yet the subtle curve of his lips suggested he was aware of everything—the wind outside, the river below, and the young disciple now kneeling at the threshold.

Arun bowed low, touching his forehead to the mat.
“Guruji,” he whispered, “I have come… with questions about Kriya.”

Slowly, Guruji’s eyes opened. They seemed to hold both the depth of a still lake and the boundless expanse of the mountain sky.
“Sit, my child,” he said, his voice warm yet steady. “Questions are the footsteps of the sincere seeker. If you ask from the heart, they will carry you to the heart of the truth.”

Arun crossed his legs before him, spine instinctively straightening. His breath quickened—not from the climb, but from anticipation.
“Guruji,” he began, “in books, I see the Chakras painted with colors, petals, Sanskrit letters… But in Kriya Yoga, how should I approach them?”

Guruji’s smile was almost imperceptible.
“In Kriya, we do not waste time painting pictures on the mind’s wall. The Chakras are not art for the imagination—they are living organs in the astral spine. They are steps on a mystic ladder that takes you to the soul. In the beginning, you only sense their place—approximately. With steady practice, perception sharpens. If you spend your energy creating mental colors, petals, and shapes, you may miss the true current of the practice.”

“Then… how will I truly know them?”

“When mind is silent,” he said, “when body is relaxed, and when the soul longs for the Infinite, the breath turns inward. Then the reality of the Chakras reveals itself. You will hear their subtle vibration, see their light, and feel their unique pulse. You will recognize the upward pull of each center. Kechari Mudra, when the ‘wind’ of the breath subsides, will help awaken this awareness.”

His tone grew quieter, but each word seemed etched in the air.
“Remember, there are two aspects to each Chakra. The inner aspect—its essence—is a vibration of light, drawing your awareness upward. The outer aspect is the life-giving force that nourishes your body. When you ascend the spine in Kriya Pranayama, imagine the Chakras as small twinkling lights in a hollow luminous tube. When descending, feel them distributing the cosmic energy into the body, as though rays are flowing from them into the regions before them.”

Arun's eyes drifted closed for a moment, trying to picture this living ladder of light.
“Guruji… please tell me where they are.”

Guruji’s back straightened slightly, his voice taking on the clarity of a mapmaker describing sacred terrain:
“Muladhara—at the base of the spine, just above the tailbone. Swadhisthana—midway between Muladhara and the navel. Manipura—in the lumbar region, level with the navel. Anahata—behind the heart, between the shoulder blades. Vishuddha—where neck joins shoulders; you can feel it if you sway your head gently, keeping your chest still. Above, you will find the Medulla at the top of the spinal cord—this is a gateway. From there, focus forward to Bhrumadhya, between the eyebrows. Steady yourself there, and the inner light will grow into the Kutastha—the spiritual eye—a radiant point at the center of an endless sphere of golden-blue light. This is the door to Divine Consciousness.”

Arun’s voice was almost a whisper. “And beyond that?”

“Beyond are subtler sanctuaries—the pituitary gland, counterpart to Ajna; the pineal, shaped like a pine cone, the crown jewel of sadhana when flooded with white light. There are two centers known as Roudri and Bama, above the left and right ears. At the back lies Bindu, the sacred whirl of hair. When higher Kriyas are mastered, Bindu opens to the Fontanelle—Sahasrara—the thousand-petaled lotus. Beyond even that is the eighth Chakra, thirty centimeters above the head, like a star above your crown.”

The Ganga’s voice seemed to swell in the distance, as if echoing his words.

“Guruji,” Arun asked, “how should I sit to begin this journey?”

“Face the east,” Guruji said. “In Half-lotus, the body is steady yet relaxed. Sit on the edge of a firm cushion so the hips rise slightly and the spine grows like the trunk of a young deodar tree. Reverse the legs when tired. Siddhasana is stronger—the heels pressing on the perineum and pubic bone, especially with Kechari, seal the pranic circuit. Padmasana is for the few whose bodies open naturally to it—force will only injure the knees. Remember this: it is not the complexity of the posture, but the steadiness of the spine that opens the gates.”

Arun shifted, adjusting his crossed legs, sensing the subtle alignment of his spine.
“And my hands, Guruji?”

“Interlock the fingers as Lahiri Mahasaya did. This unites the current of both sides of the body. In Kriya, Pranayama flows into meditation without break. One becomes the other, as river becomes ocean.”

The light through the window grew brighter, washing Guruji’s face in gold.

“Guruji,” Arun said softly, “what if I feel nothing? No light, no vibration—only darkness?”

Guruji leaned forward, his voice low but unwavering.
“Then you sit with that darkness as if it were your oldest friend. You do not chase it away. You breathe with it. One day, you will discover—it was light all along.”

Outside, the temple bell rang again. The sun crept over the snowy ridges, and in that moment, Arun felt that the mountains within had begun to open their gates.
